I was just in LJU for a week in November. My trip report is located at Slovenia trip
There is a Food market on friday afternoons that has a lot of different vendors. I would strongly recommend Cafe Cokl for coffee. Iva at http://www.ljubljananjam.si/ does a series of food and beer walking tours which can give you a great feeling of the smaller local cuisines |
In Zagreb I really enjoyed this restaurant :

Thank you both for the suggestion.
davidgrahammd - I enjoyed your report - thanks for sharing. I love the milk vending machines! Are the milk vending machines locate everywhere ? I would like to try this. I will be landing on Friday, hopefully I will had chance to try the food market. How far away from the airport to the city? I will be staying at Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana Mons. helosc - The food on the menu on Agava look very interest. Any special disk do you recommend ? Due the the currency on Zagreb, should I need to get the currency exchange in USA first, or do they take credit card ? Thanks again... Lee |

And I remember my companion liking the oven baked octopus with vegetables. The waiters are very good at making suggestions, also drink suggestions - they have some nice wines. I paid cash so I don't know if they take credit cards. |
Ljubljana is nice, but (Lake) Bled is breathtaking and the Postojna Caves are also top of the "must see" list. Give Slovenia 2 or 3 days to scratch the surface.

I can also recommend a restaurant in Ljubljana. I went there for a one day trip from Zagreb.
Bistro Zvezda on the Kongresni Square. They have daily specials for lunch and also a regular menu card. http://www.zvezdaljubljana.si/en/bistro/ |
Thank you both.
I decided to stay 3 night in Ljubljana, and 1 night in Zagreb. Just need to figure out how much should I bring for the currency in Zagreb, since they are not using Euro. Thanks again, Lee |
Have a nice trip.
The train ride from Ljubljana to Zagreb is really nice, lovely views. |

As far as currency exchange is concerned for Croatia, take your ATM card with you and use it when you get there. You won't find many places in the USA that deal in the Croatian Kuna (HRK).
When I visited Croatia two months ago, the exchange rate was $1 bought 6.13 HRK. xe.com reports today (2/12/15) that the exchange rate is now HRK6.74 for $1; this is about a 9% devaluation of the HRK in two months' time. |

Depending on how many Eastern European cities you've been to, I might pass on Ljubljana. It's nice and somewhat quaint, but not anything particularly special. I've heard great things about Lake Bled, though - not sure how far that is from Ljubljana (my knowledge of Slovenian geography is minimal!)
