Please suggest a hotel in Florence

Could someone please make suggestions for a moderately priced hotel in the center of Florence? Looking for a place that is easily walkable to Uffizzi and markets etc and has air conditioning.

I'd appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks!

A few years ago, we stayed at Le Principe... moderately priced and the room was actually spacious. It was a bit out of the bustle of Florence's center area but certainly walkable with no problem. What the room rate now is, I have no idea but we enjoyed our stay.. good breakfast included.

The Villa Medici is upscale, but you can get it sometimes for a good price if you call the hotel directly, or even through Amex FHR sometimes. Good quite location, yet close to all the old things.

Please check out the Hermitage Hotel:

Nice small hotel, nicely decorated rooms, incredibly nice and helpful staff. Located immediately at foot of Pte. Vecchio, 1/2 block from Uffizi. Nice living room with cocktails/wine available in evenings, view of river and Pte. Vecchio. Breakfast on the roof every morning. We had a wonderful stay there last fall and will definitely stay there again when we return to Florence (hopefully soon)!!

(For those who notice similar post to similar recent thread please excuse)

PS Moderately priced with current exchange rate for a nice place is tough!!

I can highly recommend the Maison de Charme. It is located just near the Santa Maria Novella train station. You can read more about it at their website. http://maisoncharme.hotelinfirenze.com/ I stayed there with my wife last May and it cost about 90 Euro a night for a double room. It is more of a pensione or boutique hotel in that they have very few rooms, I think only 6 or 8. It is located on the top floor of a building, but once inside the place, it feels like a hotel, even though the establishment is small. The room we had came with a balcony that offered a nice view. I don't think all of the rooms have balconies, so you may want to request one. Our room was airconditioned, had a small fridge, and they provided a small continental breakfast in the morning, in room. The location is great, and even though it is very close to the train station, noise was not an issue. I'd go back to this place in a heartbeat. It was a tremendous deal. Don't expect the Ritz, but it is a solid 3 star property. You will get a decent sized clean room with private bath. I hope this helps. Have a great trip.

Last time we stayed at Hotel Monna Lisa - Very conveniently located. The hotel is also very historically connected.

Looking for any additional recommendations

Since several months have passed, I thought I would see if anyone has additional recommendations based on recent travels. Thanks.

I would recommend looking at www.florenceby.com which allows you to search by neighborhood as well as star-rating. This company has websites for several cities.

In Florence, I would consider staying in the Oltrarno area (across the Arno), near the Pitti Palace, which is also a close walk across the Ponte Vecchio to the Uffizi. It is much quieter, safe, and has some great hotels like Pensione Annalena, which we loved: www.hotelannalena.it

DON'T MISS The Pitti Palace and its Palatine Gallery to see how the Medicis lived...you will be repeatedly picking your jaw up off the floor!
