Thoughts on the Azores?
 

I'm considering about three weeks in the Azores this August and have just started doing some research. Anyone have suggestions on islands they've liked? Or any general tips on the area? I did a general search on FT, but didn't find much of anything.

I visited several years ago with a friend who emigrated from San Miguel to the US.... we stayed with his family so I can't really comment on hotels. San Miguel is a gorgeous island, lush green mountains and a rugged coastline...with flowering hydrangea bushes lining every road. It's low on excitement, very high on scenic beauty. Sete Cidades is set in an (extinct) volcanic crater with a pair of lakes that appear to be different colors when seen from the road high above...Furnas has natural hot springs and a really nice hotel and golf course.... Ponta Delgada is the main "city"...if you want to call it that. All in all it's a wonderful place to get away from it all.
