Brindisi, Italy?

I'm going to be spending New Year's in Brindisi with my fiance and his family (they live there). I'm flying to Rome, he's meeting me there, then we're taking the train to Brindisi, then I'm flying back from Rome.

Any tips, hints, advice, etc.? I used to live in northern Italy, but have spent little time in the south and have never been to Brindisi.
