Dining recommendations for Munich...

Hello all,

I'll be headed to Munich for Oktoberfest (going early to have a little time before the crowds). I'd like some recommendations for places to eat there. I enjoy most kinds of good food and wine, but some of my favorites are:

1) Classic European homestyle fare (Goulash, etc.)
2) Asian (Japaneese or Thai; really love Sushi)
3) French; the saucier the better

Thanks,
BoB

Lucky you - I've been to 8 Oktoberfests, but sadly, won't make this one...

1.) Classic - I like Spatenbräu right across from the Opera, Weisses Bräuhaus an der Tal is also very good & authentic. Nuremburger Bratwurstl am Dom in good, but limited menu & very crowded. The Rathaus is ok & fun to check out, but I don't think the food all that great.

2.) Can't give you Asian, but our favorite for seafood is the Austernkeller - unbelievable lobster thermidor & fun restaurant with great service.

Whatever you do, don't miss a morning at the Viktualienmarkt - have a weisswurst & beer for breakfast (I know, sounds gross, but it's really quite good) & watch the world go by - love this place!

Dallmayr's is also great for browsing & has a stand-up oyster & champagne bar - quite a posh way to snack in the afternoon!

Have fun & have a roasted chicken, radish & beer for me! Ooooh, and those warm candied almonds - yummm!

i have only been once..and that was a couple of years ago on a business trip that kept me at the airport hotel for 5 days....but i managed to stay an extra day and accidentally found this little restaurant in the city center, sort of close to the hofbrau house. very small, very crowded, very quaint......and very good. believe it or not, the only item i have from it is the napkin..(yes i thought it was so good that i kept the napkin) and it lists the following website.

www.bratwurst-gloeckl.de

all i can say is that it was the be schnitzel i've ever had. and that's not the beer talking. :)
