Buapest dining
If you are on the Buda side of the Danube, there is a great restaurant in the Castle District called Fekete Hollo.
Address: Országház u. 10., H-1014 Budapest
Tel : 36-1-356 2367
This restaurant is small, but very charming. In the evenings they offer live traditional gypsy music. The evening we were there they had three musicians; 2 playing violins, and 1 playing the viola. This restaurant serves traditional hungarian dishes and specializes in fish and game dishes. I had the wild boar with a raspberry sauce. It came with a side of noodles with a paprikas sauce. The meat was so tender it could be cut with a fork; quite heavenly. They offer a selection of wines including several hungarian wines. I recommend the Bikaver, also known as the "bull's blood." Dinner for two with wine, appetizers and tip will cost about $30-40. The service is excellent. Recommended attire is smart casual. The live music and traditional cuisine create a truly authentic and magical hungarian dining experience, without breaking the budget. I can't remember the restaurant hours, but they do close fairly early in the evening, around 9:30 or 10:00 if memory serves me correctly, so don't get there too late. A reservation might be a good idea because although the restaurant has two rooms, they are each intimate and seating capacity is probably only around 40 people.
Egeszsegedre! (hungarian for cheers!, pronouced: Egg-eh-shay-ghed-rah)
