Milan?

Hellooooooooooo.....

Anyone have any dining suggestions for Milan?

We're not looking for the elegant, three-star, formal dining experience, but great food in a more casual setting.

We'll be staying in the Piazza de Repubblica neighborhood, but anywhere easily accessible is fine.

Lunch and dinner suggestions welcome, and if you know a fantastic gelateria, please, oh please tell me.

Ok, in case anyone ever comes to this forum again and wants to know:

Trattoria dell'Orso
Via Ciovasso, 5

(02)86463400

Papa, Mama, and son run the place, turns out they lived in NY for a few years.

I strongly recommend the warm octopus salad and I am told the lamb chops were wonderful (don't care for lamb myself). The desserts were merely passable, but the wine list was very good and quite reasonably priced.

Less than €120 for two; three courses plus coffee and an excellent Barbera d'Alba.

Thank you Kitty Hawk - I go 'through' Milan several times a year (only when I have to) and am always on the look for a good place to eat. I'm going to send this link to my sister who will be traveling there in October.

I asked for restaurant recommendations on the Friday night I was in Milan. The Westin Palace sent me around the corner to a place called Al Grattacielo (Vittor Pisani 6 - 02.67.04.962)

Very small, pleasant restaurant. The waiters spoke some English (which was helpful, particularly when they saw me struggling with my Italian dictionary to translate a couple of menu items).

I had the best veal dish ever as an entree... the seafood items I tried on my first and second courses were slightly less good. I saw others having what looked to be lovely lamb and beef courses... and that is what I would stick with on a return visit.

The dessert cart was fabulous and I had great trouble choosing just one. Fortunately, my selection was also accompanied by a nice portion of cookies and sweets (just like Grandma used to make) and I left satisfied.

House wine service accompanied my selections (champagne to start and lovely whites and reds)... from what I could tell, it was part of the overall pricing of the dinner.

The restaurant is a half-block walk from the Piazza de Repubblica station for those not staying at the Starwood properties on that circle.
