The first AMS post!

As a very regular user of AMS I am honored to be making the first post here!

Thanks guys for listening to our suggestion for this topic, you got it here fast! I'll try to keep it up to date with any AMS related info I have!

Just b/c it isn't worthy of a new thread, I have to say how dissapointed I am in the stores at AMS (at least in the Int'l terminal). I needed to pickup some last minute souveniers before my flight home and there was only 1 store that sold t-shirts and Dutch goods (plus a tulip shop). This kind of upset me. Oh well.

I think the shopping at AMS is fairly good and I'm happy to not have a bunch of cheesy souvenier shops. One tip: if you don't find what you need in the terminal, head out through passport control (always quick and easy, assuming you don't need or already have a visa) into schipol plaza, where you will find another large selection of stores.

Chexfan, how true! AMS used to have all kinds of little stores with really dutch stuff, here are some tips if you are coming over soon:

D lounge: the food store opposite central search has a large assort. of dutch foods, cheese, delft blauw tiles and Droste chocolate

Between E and F piers you will find a small museum outlet selling the stuff they also sell in the larger amsterdam museums.

The new fashion store in the D lounge used to have a huge collection of dutch stuff but after recently rebuilding the collection is much smaller, although they still have clogs, flower bulbs and delfts blue.

Dudsters tip is also very good, the Schiphol Plaza stores are open from 0700-2200 and offer a large variety.

Ick! Forget the Droste... Neuhaus chocolates are very well-priced there (although I did once get a box that was none-too-fresh; maybe that was why it was a "promotion"). But I've never had trouble with the product from the counter where you hand-pick your assortment. Don't miss the Pagode, Caprice, Tentation, Bonaparte, Satan, and Black & White. The Tentation is particularly delicious (although Neuhaus overall is sweeter than the amazing products from Galler & Marcolini (also Belgian)).

Pierre Marcolini, Maison de Chocolat etc are the best, correct, but people don't come to AMS to buy belgian chocolates, you need something dutch, unfortuneatley Droste is the best we have...

I find Neuhaus, Godiva etc to be too "factory made".
