Baltic Beach Resorts Areas

Any good recommendations on places to stay with nice beaches in Poland? Estonia? Latvia? Thanks.

Try Palanga, Lithuania, nice beaches and cheap (tho with the rise of the Litas [pegged to the Euro] it's not as cheap as it used to be).

The March 2004 issue of Conde Nast Traveler has a large story with on the beaches and resorts of the Baltics. You may want to check it out for some ideas. The beaches they picture look gorgeous.

Just bear in mind that the Baltic is a fair way north and that you can't be guaranteed good weather. You may be lucky and have days of unbroken sunshine where you can lie on the beach and swim in the sea. But you may be unlucky and have cold, rainy, windy weather even in the middle of July.

We are off to the Polish Baltic region in a few weeks. Am trying to organize overnights at Relais-&-Chateaux-like properties (there are no true R&Cs in Poland in the 2004 catalog).

Have found online several nice-looking Zamki and Dwore/ Palaci. Any inspirations out there? Zamek Jan Sobieski looks good near Puck. Also some places in the Western bits of Pomerania.

Am in Warsaw at the Hyatt a couple of nights with a few (Polish) friends, if any Flyertalkers are around and about for drinks/ dinner.

Thanks,

This past April/May I had a short work assignment in Gdansk, Poland. Gdansk is beautiful. But speaking of beaches, we took a 20 minute taxi ride to a town called Sopot. Sopot is a summer resort town - or so it seems. The large white sand beach and azure waters were spectacular and inviting; however, the April/May weather did not allow us to take a dip in the Baltic. Sopot has a lot of small stores, restaurants and pubs. The town had a really nice feel. You should include Sopot in your list of places to see.

Any comments on the Jan Sobieski manor house at Puck? How about the castle at Krag?
