Munich hotel recomendations?

Please share your recommendations or warnings about hotels in the city and around Munich?

I stayed at the Mercure near the central train station several years ago, through an American Express trip.

Mercure is a European chain, and the room was the most "American" I've encountered in Europe: big bed, big room etc.

The breakfast, which was included, was outstanding! That I remember it several years later is a good sign! Smoked salmon, lots of fresh breads, jams, etc. Generous & varied buffet.

I don't recall the price--I probably used an AMEX voucher--but I expect it was mid to upper range.

What price range are you looking for? Do you have a (rental) car?

BTW, the Mercure near central train station is not one of the hotels I would recommend; this area is centrally located but not one the best and safest areas in Munich.

if you book one of the very costly 5-star hotels in munich i.e. the bayerischer hof or the kempinski vier jahreszeiten (both in excellent locations) be sure to ask for a "renovated" room.

Uli,

if price is not an issue I think this one is even better:

Kempinski Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten 17 Maximilianstr. München

My sister and I stayed at the Minuch City Hilton back in November of 2000, and we had a wonderful stay there.

The concierge was able to get us ANYTHING we needed and the rest of the hotel stay was very accomodating.

I used Hilton points to pay for the stay. We were able to get a junior suite, which normally would have cost us $300/pp per night.

I enjoyed the Hotel Opera on St. Annastrasse. It is near the city center and Maximillianstrasse (shopping street). About 140 U.S.

Also stayed at the Hotel Continentat on Hohenzeollernstrasse in Schwabing. Similar to a W hotel in Greenwich Villiage style neighborhood. About $110 US.

For Hotels in Germany try www.hrs.de

They sometimes have incredible offers and are very reliable.

E.G. for the next weekend they show several 4-star hotels in the range of 60€...

nice site, easy to use. Even a few days now before Oktoberfest, they have some 50-65 E singles.

I am looking for a nice hotel very centrally located. Can some please provide specific recommendations?

Mr. Roboto Sep 19, 2003 3:08 pm

Hotel Advokat

Sleek, Euro-style design.
Central location, in the Haidhausen district, near Deutsches Museum.
Closest S-Bahn station: ISARTOR
Rates: €130-€190 per night including tax and breakfast (and a good one too!)

The area is O.K. - but not very good.
I would book at priceline or HRS.com.
