Entry into Austria from USA- studies?

My son is looking to attend a small Bible school in Austria at the end of June from the US. Looks like there is an exception for students. The pre-travel clearance form says :

Exception for entry from other states § 5 (4).
  • Persons entering for the purpose of commencing or continuing a course of study or for research purposes
  • Persons entering for the purpose of attending school,
Does anyone know what documents they need or how they check on arrival?

Thank you

Your son should obtain a student visa through the Austrian Embassy in his country of residence.

He could not fly like a tourist without a visa even for study purposes.
