France opens up to tourists who are fully vaccinated - will Germany follow suit?

Just saw the news that starting June 9, 2021, France will allow tourists who are fully vaccinated in.

I am hoping Germany will follow suit to start the tourism season by the time schools end in the US which is first week of June.

The weird thing with Germany is that they made major updates on the last day of February and March, but not April... My guess is they are waiting on the official EU announcement (supposed to be soon) before making a new one. Hopefully soon because I am also hoping/need to get to Germany in the next couple of weeks.

I am hoping so too. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Quick question: Why are people so eager to travel to Europe? Most countries will still have restrictions in place that - in a best-case scenario - will require you to present a negative test result before visiting a restaurant, bar, etc.. Germany is the only major European nation that has plans of cutting back restrictions for fully vaccinated individuals.

That depends on the country. Spain is fairly open in some regions, with the rest opening pretty widely next week, and their Covid numbers are almost identical to the U.S. currently.

It's sort of like this: people often like to publicly signal their independence when explicitly told "you can't do this". For example, 18-21 year old adults are generally prohibited from buying/consuming alcoholic beverages in the US and yet so many of the immature ones have an urge to assert their independence by getting plastered despite the illegal nature of their behavior as soon as they think they may be able to get away with buying alcohol and binging on it.

Europe is the tourist's "good stuff"?

Greece is starting to lift more restrictions soon with 15 May as sort of a key date; organized beaches are set to open this coming weekend. Iceland and Croatia seem to have a good tourist experience now, based on recent trip reports. I've seen news reports of other destinations planning to have things open enough by the summer season. Also there is more than just just visiting clubs and restaurants...outdoor activities are likely to be viable even if indoor venues have some lingering limitations.

Plus don't forget not everyone is traveling for tourism. A fair number of people have relatives that they've been unable to see in person since 2019 or at best, very early 2020.

I need to get a good mileage run in somewhere. Thailand requires quarantine so Germany it is!
