Urgent: Please help with determining how to connect in AMS

All - Need your help please kinda of urgently. An individual is a citizen of the Russian Federation. Has a valid US visa and does not have a valid Shengen visa. The person is flying the following itinerary:

MSQ-AMS-EWR-IAH.

The MSQ-AMS segment is on Belavia and is on a separate ticket. The AMS-EWR-IAH segment is on UA and is the second ticket. The person has checked luggage. How does the person transfer the luggage from the MSQ-AMS flight on Belavia to the AMS-EWR flight on UA? Is there a transfer/transit desk in AMS or something like this and can this desk help? The reason I ask is that I believe the person may have to go through immigration at AMS in order to pick up and check in again but, obviously, that is not possible due to the absence of a Shengen visa. There are a variety of reasons the person had to take this itinerary. Thanks so much.

Just to say as well that even if there were no visa issues there are no bag drop desk in AMS baggage claim area which in any case are after immigration.

Your friend would have to clear Dutch Immigration, collect the bags, take them to UAs check in desk, reclear security and exit passport control before getting back to airside.

The only salvation I can think your friend could seek would be to check if these two airlines have an interline agreement even when flying on separate tickets and through check the bags which would obviate the need to enter the Netherlands and they could remain airslide.

They will not be allowed to board the MSQ-AMS flight, since they dont have a valid Schengen visa. Even if they make it to AMS, they won't be able to board the flight to EWR, since they are at that point in an Schengen country and the only people being allowed into the US at this time are US citizens, residents and a few other categories of travelers listed here: https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...ronavirus.html Unless the US visa the are in possession of is listed as one of those exceptions, they should stay in Minsk or try and get back to RU

Your friend will be denied boarding on the first segment, as they do not have a Schengen visa and there is no connection here, just two separate tickets.

Thanks. Yes, we ended up needing to rebook the tickets via IST (or via BEG) - the only way for someone with a US visa to make it to the the US and bypassing the EU.
