If you already live in Slovakia, what kind of visa or permit do you have?

And does it allow you to work in the EU? If yes, you should be fine. If not, you need a permit to work at least in Austria.

You will need a work permit for Austria. There is no EU wide work permit for non EU-citizens. Each EU country does this on it own. Do not confuse work permits / work visas with the short term (up to 90 days) tourist/business Schengen Visa. So a work permit for Slovakia ( I just guess that you have a work permit for Slovakia but you only wrote you have a living permit) does not help you in Austria.

A visa/permit (to live and work) for and from one EU country generally doesn’t permit a person to live and work in other EU countries beside the one which issued the visa/permit. If you have a long-term residence status of sort, there may be exceptions to this:

If this person you know in Vienna offered you a job, surely they are willing to arrange all work formalities, right?

You need to talk to a proper immigration lawyer / advocate who can can give you proper advice based on your detailed personal circumstances such as your passport country etc
