FR becomes an UHCC?

Hey FTers,

I was looking at planning a trip to DUB (from MAN) in the coming days and found this whopper of an airfare:

Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it!

Supply and Demand affects them as well. The fact that you can fly the same day for £12.43 tells me it has not.

Aer Lingus looks to be 1/4 the price, 5 minutes later (£79, 8:05am). I'd take that.

Low cost = low price is a logical fallacy. Low cost is a corporate strategy where you differentiate yourself by having a lower cost structure, so that you can effectively compete on price with higher cost providers. It does not mean you are inherently low price, it just means that you can be without drowning if market conditions dictate it.

That's what I cannot understand. Why would FR raise their prices sky high when a competitor is offering virtually the same route with normal services (i.e. you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for everything) at a fraction of the price? Even if the plane already has a load factor of 95% (unlikely), surely they would push the price close to EI not exceed it by orders of magnitude! Any if a kettle is dumb enough to buy that FR fare, then good riddance!
