The flight options from CAI-> TLV are:

Aegan 1hr or 10hr 20min layover in Athens
Royal Jordan 7:30hr layover but get into TLV at 11:30pm, or

I have not been to either Athens or Amman so I am thinking of choosing the longer layover option if I it is allows for sightseeing in relative safety & comfort (I do not want to lug around the carry-on suitcase).

did you check fares via Cyprus? (LCA)

Personally out of all the options you mentioned, if it was me Id do the 10 hr layover ATH and get out and see the main sights, which most have mentioned and all doable even in the 7 hrs you will have for running around

Id do The Acropolis then the museums to make sure i got it done

Thank you. After your suggestion I have been monitoring fares from Cairo thru Cyprus LCA. Most of the flights go via a stop in Athens and does not leave enough time to go sight seeing. (The lower price flights are flying out of Cairo via Aegean Airlines or Egyptian Airlines)
