AirBnb Amsterdam 9 Streets

Our original Amsterdam AirBnB Cancelled and apparently the listing was misrepresented. We paid $411 for 4 nights. So I called AirBnB and they found us a room in an apartment that is shared with the single homeowner and covered the additional costs.

Its centrally located in the 9 Streets neighborhood very close to the Anne Frank House, 1.5 KM to the Van Gough and Rajkismuseum a 11 minute walk to Jordaan, 10 minute walk to Damn Square.

The AirBnB has access to a kitchen, has WiFI, Cable TV and a nice bathroom.
Its located on the third floor and has stairs but that is normal in Amsterdam as its located in a Historic building.

We will be there towards the end of April. Please give me your experience on this area and what to do at the end of April.

The host is a Superhost and got very good reviews.

Did we do well on the location? Any tips would be greatly appreciated for nightlife, restaurants etc.

The location is very good, Amsterdam is a rather small city and everything is within a walking/biking/tram distance.
I think you'll find plenty of recommendations in other threads in this forum, unless you have specific questions

From what I read the 9 Street area is a prestigeous area. Hotels like the Andaz are located in this area. What is a good breakfast,lunch and dinner plade to eat. We would like a hole in the wall Dutch and Indonesian restaurant that is not too expensive and not touristy. Any reccomendations are greatly appreciated.

Also what is a good supermarket chain in AMS. From the 9 street area is Uber the best way from the port and to Schipol Airport vs train from Centraal?

Our IcelandAir leaves at 2 PM what is a good time to arrive at AMS to enjoy the observation deck and an airline lounge . Where is the supermarket located in the airport? Is there a place to buy beer wine and liquor after security or an inexpensive place in AMS to take with us to Iceland?

Thanks

The 9 Streets (9 Straatjes) is lovely - you've done well. Been a while since I've been in the area, so I'll let others recommend restaurants.

The main supermarket chain in Amsterdam is Albert Heijn - they have almost every supermarket in the city. Luckily, they're rather good. Note that, like many Dutch businesses, they don't take credit cards, only Maestro and V-Pay.

The supermarket in the airport is before security, in the "Schiphol Plaza" shopping centre, behind the railway station (so, if you've got a taxi to the airport, you'll need to go down one level to arrivals).

Getting to/from the 9 Straatjes depends on how much effort you want to make. It's near the tram stop "Spui", served by lines 1, 2 and 5, which all go to Central Station (5 also goes to Amsterdam-Zuid). Uber is an easy way to get around, but the tram system works very well. If you have a cruise-load of luggage (which you imply by asking for directions from the port) then go for Uber. If you're lightly laden, then tram 26 goes from the cruise port (I assume you mean this rather than the IJmuiden ferry terminal) to Centraal Station (or you can walk it) and 1/2/5 to the 9 Straatjes. To/from Schiphol I'd personally go via tram 5 and Amsterdam Zuid, but I know that route quite well.

My husband still fantasizes about the AH butter we brought back from a trip to Amsterdam years ago ;-) (apparently it had the perfect size salt flakes in it!) We rented a canal-side apartment for that trip and were able to buy premade quiches etc to have for breakfast - I thought the quality was pretty good. I remember the 9 Streets because our visit was in late Nov or early Dec and they had really lovely holiday decorations up! But I don't have any restaurant recommendations - let us know what you find, though, because I'd love to get back there soon!!

There are stairs and there are Amsterdam stairs. Stairs in Amsterdam, especially those in historic buildings look more like ladders than they look like stairs. Google "Amsterdam stairs" to see what I'm talking about. I don't know if you have a lot of luggage, but if you do; good luck!

The 9 streets area is a really nice area, but I wouldn't call it prestigous. It's a very busy and touristy area with lots of shops, cafe's and restaurants. You will find plenty of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

When are your exact dates? The end of april means it's peak tulip season, so you might want to visit the Keukenhof;

If you happen to be here on April 27, you should be aware that that day is Kings Day. Amsterdam will be crazy busy that day and the night before;

A bit OT, but all this talk of the 9 Streets (9 Straatjes) is making me feel old. Am I the only one who remembers when there was no 9 Streets neighborhood? The streets were there, of course, but the name was a branding gimmick adopted only about 20 years ago. It has that nice traditional ring, though, doesn't it?

There's a good Rijsttafel nearby. Long Pura on Rozengracht.

My favourite restaurant in that area is Seasons, not exactly in the 9 Streets but then it's just a marketing name.
Seasons Restaurant
Food is always fresh and interesting.

Since we have gone a little north of the 9, let's not forget specialist beer bar Arendsnest
DUTCH CRAFT BEER ONLY - HOME

Smakelijk!

We definitely went to Arendsnest - so yummy!!! (my husband is a homebrewer and we LOVE to try as many local beers as possible when we travel) We also did a tasting menu at Lieve but it looks like they've changed names etc and are now Spingaren

Alcohol is desperately expensive in Iceland. However there is a duty-free shop on arrival at KEF before baggage reclaim and that's where you should stock up!
