AMS - Two passengers converging

My wife and I are going to be flying to converge in AMS before then departing for GUW (Kazakhstan).

I will be overnighting in an airport hotel, she will be flying in from ATL.

My assumption is when I go to the airport and through security, I will be in the non-Schengen area. As she is arriving from a non-Schengen country, she will be in the same area and I will be able to meet her directly at her gate (provided I'm there early enough) and we can promptly walk around to our gate (effectively she has no security and no immigration to clear). Is my assumption correct?

I'm not sure if AMS considers the US a clean origin. If they do, there won't be security control upon arrival. If they don't, she will have to go thru transit security. Some AMS-loyal frequent-flyer might clear that question.

I would meet up somewhere near the shops before heading to the gate. That's the area you end up after going thru security.
