Here's an interesting article on AirBnB in Georgia. It might give you the experience you seek. (Disclaimer: I've never used AirBnB nor have I visited Georgia - yet.)

As for AirBnB, will need to research how that works. But staying with a family, renting a room in a house - that's the type of thing I think I'd like. Thanks for the link. And if anyone else has ideas on staying with families, please let me know.

Ruins of Abkhazia
Just came across a beautiful photo essay of Abkhazia, and wanted to share it here --> https://www.boredpanda.com/soviet-ru...y-andy-schwetz
I thought this thread would be appropriate, b/c most maps still include this region as part of Georgia. However, since their vicious war of independence in the 1990's, it's been practically self-governing.

Also, Georgia presently offers visa-free entry for anyone in the world. They are not known to bar anyone from entering. Georgia still enjoys and benefits from heavy tourist traffic from Russia. I seriously doubt they would ever pester those tourists with questions whether they had also visited Abkhazia.

I was pretty sure that was the only route available. However the photographer stated in his intro (3d paragraph): "After my entry over the Enguri river...". That means they entered Abkhazia from Georgia. Apparently connecting roads and bridges are still functioning!!!

I spent about 4 nights in Tbilisi and the surrounding area. I love it! I explored quite a few places there. I also went to the mountains - it was beautiful. Ohhhhh.. the best of all, the Georgian wine!!

Has anyone been able to visit Abkhazia in recent months? We are planning a trip to the region for the fall and are considering including Abkhazia if feasible. Obviously entry from Russia is not really doable for Westerners but we would be visiting from the rest of Georgia (Enguri River crossing).

I think if you go from Georgia and they will stamp you passport in Abhasia its a big red flag when entering back to Georgia. Meaning penalty, so only way is from Russia if its really needed to go
