Diamond Lounge in BRU
 

We will have a 6 hour layover in Brussels, and since that's clearly not enough time to get to Antwerp for any reasonable visit, I was going to spend some time in the Diamond Lounge there.

I'll be flying in from ORD, will I be able to use the Lounge (with the shower) when I deplane in Terminal B? The transferring flight is to Venice which I imagine will depart from terminal A.

But the OP is pretty confusing.

Are you looking for the best way to spend 7 hours after deplaning from USA and boarding a flight to Venice?

What airlines? Do you have airline status?

What times are the BRU flights?

Would you enjoy a good meal with drinks while in Brussels?

Yeah you're right, it looks like I buried the question in the second paragraph sorry about that. My main question has to do with the fact that there are two diamond lounges in Brussels airport.

The international lounge has a shower and the Schengen zone lounge does not.

When I get off the plane I will be arriving at the international lounge from ORD. I'm not sure if I have to go to the luggage area and pick up my bags at which point I don't believe I can get back into the international area as I will be outbound to Venice five hours later.

If you are traveling on SN and you have access to *A lounges (traveling in Business or by way of *G status), you can visit The Loft, i.e. SN's lounge, which is very good.

However, with a 6 hour layover, I would consider a quick trip into town to have a beer. Getting to the center on the train takes about 30 minutes, and it beats anything any lounge has to offer.

Also I assume you will be arriving on UA: again if you are traveling in a premium cabin or have status you might be able to visit the Sheraton hotel outside the airport to take a shower.

Yes, arriving on UA. I'm flying with 3 others, this won't be on status. I have access to Diamond Lounges, though.

Flight arrives at 9:05 and departs at 1:55... so just under 5 hours. It would be nice to pop into town for a couple of hours, but it will depend on if luggage gets checked through or if it takes a while to check it in and if the flight arrives on time etc. etc. Flying Schengen should be quick and painless, but I've never flown through BRU before.

The train to Antwerp Central takes 32 minutes each way. Train station is in the basement of the airport. Your call if 2 hours in Antwerpen is enough. The station is enough reason to make this trip imo. You can then take the "pre-metro" (underground tram) to the Groenplaats, marvel at the cathedral, have a drink and return.
If you want to have a shower on arrival then they might let you in at the Diamond lounge, but it will be crowded. The "Loft" at the A-Pier is a better option but quite a long walk so I wouldn't combine it with a trip to Antwerp because it will cost too much time.
Flying out of A is now very fast and efficient since the new building "connector" is ready: seldom a queue at security. Still quite a distance to walk.

What's security like on a Schengen flight at BRU?

EDIT: Nevermind... Pier A IS the Schengen terminal. Got that backwards. We fly IN to Pier B ( International ) and out of Pier A.

Your luggage should be checked through if the flight is on the same ticket. It is not like the US where you have to pick up your luggage at port of entry.

Pick either Brussels or Antwerp, they are a short train ride away and will be much nicer than staying at the airport. The Grand Place in Brussels is a 10 min walk, if that, from the Central Station. Lots of restaurants and shops around. Antwerp is very nice also.

Since you explicitly mentioned Antwerp in your first post, I assumed you wanted to go there. If you haven't been to either, I would opt for a quick trip to Brussels. Plenty of information in other threads.

Does anyone know if the Schengen Diamond Lounge is still a temporary lounge? There doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the Airport webpage. Given the long security lines at BRU now, we're going to opt for staying in the terminal instead of venturing into Brussels for a few hours.

Yes, sorry. I mean I have seen conflicting reports. There isn't really any detail on the airport page if it's the temporary lounge in Pier A or not. Other reports indicate that the Pier A ( Schengen ) Diamond Lounge was moved due to construction. I was hoping someone who had been there recently would be able to to confirm whether or not the lounge was the temp location or not... as I'd just use the Pier B lounge on the incoming flight.

Yeah, they're telling people to get there 3 hours ahead of time for flights. I'm not exiting the secure area, that's for sure.

I went through it on Sunday. It's still a semi-temporary lounge on the ground floor (a floor below the main gate area), whereas the others are above the main gate area.
