Security check at WAW between flights
 

I am flying from Toronto to WAW and then to another European city. If I remember correctly from same flight 4 years ago, when I land in WAW for connecting flight, I have to go through passport control and then security. Passport to make sure I can come into European Union, but I am not sure why there is security check again - but I am 100% it was there 4 years ago. My question is about this security - I want to buy some alcohol in duty free in Toronto. As I'll have it in my carry on, will they let duty free alcohol through WAW security?
