Planning on doing this trip on a Sunday in October this year, anyone done this trip? Any advice on whether it's worth it etc, many thanks.

Are you asking about Dresden or about the train ride?

I can only comment about the train ride - which is quite scenic as it goes along the River Elbe. Make sure you sit on the right.

It's a lovely train ride. I haven't been to Dresden but it is supposed to be nice.

I've traveled this route more times than I can count. However, I don't understand your question. Are you planning a day trip to Dresden from Prague? (Which would be quite easy, as there are numerous train departures each day between both cities). Are you talking about the train ride itself? If so, it's about 3 hours in length and is probably the most scenic in Germany after the train ride along the Rhein between Mainz and Koblenz.

Why oebb.at? The train doesn't go anywhere near Austria.

You want bahn.de or cd.cz

no the DB and ÖBB use exact the same Database but the ÖBB have an much friendly GUI!
The CD Timetable is very old school.

I use DB to look up trains in Britain, nationality isn't a consideration here. But I would use DB rather than OeBB if I were the OP.

Why?
Worst GUI and a lot of useless settings you have to set before you get an Connection?

Thank-you for all the replies, but I don't think it will now be possible,I fly in to Prague on a Sunday morning, then have to get to train station,by which time the only train is 3 hours, and 2 changes,so will not give me enough time,is there anywhere else to visit from Prague in a day?Flying back Monday night.

Not something I would recommend. I don't know how DB gets its UK data, but I do know that it isn't live data - it's the equivalent of a printed timetable and is not always up to date.

For up-to-date information I would always use the operating company's site.

http://www.hacon.de/ this is what the most Train Company use in Europe.

Why not just stick to Prague for such a short trip - lots to see in Prague.

I have several times thought of doing a day trip from Prague but have given it up every time because the transport was going to take too long and departures didn't suit me... and because I wasn't really very interested in the places that were within reach.

before i forgett the trains will show only <10min before depature on which platform it stop.

1) Take an 1Class Ticket
2) Check where the Car Stop on the Platform
3) Prepare to go fast to the Train

When I got delayed on the way to Bournemouth a few months ago DB had a better idea of what was going on (signalling problems around Reading) than Nationalrail did.

I don't know why you're so obsessed with first class ToGo, second is perfectly fine on most trains. Admittedly Dresden-Prague is a long enough journey that i'd think about paying the extra for first but i'd have no qualms about travelling in second.
