Vienna & Prague
Hi all,
My gf & I have decided to visit Vienna & Prague during Easter break next year for 3 days each, then Tel Aviv/Jerusalem/Petra afterwards for 9 days. The flight from Tel Aviv back home to LAX is already booked for mid-April but the date can be changed. We can travel for a total of 15-16 days. We are trying to decide whether it is better to travel during Easter (~25 Mar - 9 Apr) so we are in Prague during Easter or after Easter (~8 Apr - 23 Apr). We have not been to any of the cities before so we want to visit the main sites. We would like to avoid crowds as much as possible, my gut is telling me go after Easter break. Are hotels generally cheaper during Easter break in Europe? If my memory serves me right, it is usually cheaper in the US during this time. Do museums and other sites, businesses close Good Friday, Easter & Easter Monday in Vienna or Prague? Will there be any festivities to make tht crowds and closed sites worth going during this time? We plan to fly UA with miles and stay at Hilton with points. |
Are hotels generally cheaper during Easter break in Europe? We have 3 IHG Hotels in Vienna and there is a offer Page: http://greenroom.co.uk/alumni Do museums and other sites, businesses close Good Friday, Easter & Easter Monday in Vienna or Prague? Will there be any festivities to make tht crowds and closed sites worth going during this time? I dont know what do you mean whit "Easter break". And yes i am from Vienna. |
Many things close in Prague on Easter. Also, when is Passover in 2013? If you want to see the Jewish Quarter in Prague and visit some of the synagogues (highly recommended) then you need to be sure that it isn't Passover since they are closed to tourists during this time.

You have made an excellent choice in cities to visit. The wife and I went on a 9 country self tour at the end of the summer and they were the best 2 cities In our view. Even though we drove all 9 countries we stayed at the Courtyard Marriott at the Prague airport. The hotel was just built not long ago and is quite nice and very quiet being right across from the runway. It was very convenient to travel into the city by mass transit. You just get on the bus right across from the hotel and go right into the city, after transferring to the subway. We went into the airport and they had an info both with maps and showed us just where to get off the subway. The second we stepped out of the subway we were simply amazed at the city.
In Vienna we stayed at a smaller hotel called Hotel Mercure Josefshof Wein. I was an older quaint hotel that was very convenient. We walked everywhere in Vienna and made it back to the hotel without getting too lost. I do believe you will love both cities and plan to go back!!! |
We will not be travelling during Easter or Passover holidays. We decided to book a total of 17 days (10 Apr - 27 Apr) with 3 in Vienna and 3 in Prague, then fly to Israel.
