Extra security BRU->US?

The Brussels airport web page has a warning that
Since 28 December 2009 passengers on a direct flight from Brussels to the USA are subject to a second security check at the gate. Moreover they are allowed only one piece of carry-on baggage.
Are both these still in effect?

How much of a hassle is the second check?

Are they prohibiting a roll-aboard plus a laptop backpack?

1. Yes on UA, no on CO. (Experiences in Feb and Aug 2010). Not sure if it's still there.
2. It's a cursory bag check + free massage if you get randomly selected.
3. No problems with that scenario

Thanks, Palal. I didn't realize the extra security varied by airline. Anyone know what the situation is for AA (BRU-ORD)?

In May 2010 I was on US Airways and carried on a roller bag and a backpack with no problems. The flight was BRU-PHL.
