Question re. Visa for Belarus
 

I am going to be in Warsaw and it is only a 3 hour train ride to Brest. I was thinking of doing a day trip, and was wondering if there is any easy and quick way to get a visa to just stop there for a few hours, or if you need to go through the whole to do and spend weeks dealing with bureaucracy. Thanks

I have heard that people with American passports have no end of problems in Belarus. The advice in every travel guidebook I've seen address it is to avoid transiting through Belarus unless absolutely necessary - and in that case to be ready to pay bribes to every policeman and official you see.

It very depends from your citizenship and country of residence. What is yours?

In some (actually many) countries getting Belarus visa is very simple and takes 5 days standard, or next-day for double fee.

For a transit visa you need a valid reason (ie onward connection to 3rd country). Travelling from Warsaw to Brest and back to Warsaw could be considered a wrong case for transit.

Honestly I never encountered any problems there with police/border guard/customs officials and never been asked to pay a bribe (my experience says Belarus is way way better than Russia on this matter), but OK I'm not American.
