Hello- can anyone help me please? Will I need my passport to support my barclaycard when I use it in Istanbul when I go on holiday in January?
Cheers Pam

In all my trips to IST, I've never had to show a passport or ID card when using my credit cards. Enjoy your visit!

I'll add a bit more: In stores/restaurants/etc, you will not be asked for your passport. In hotels, you *may* be asked to show your passport upon check-in (regardless that you use your CC or not). This is common practice for foreign nationals visiting other countries.

FYI, make sure to call your bank/card issuer to let them know of your travel plans abroad so that they 'open the card'.

One odd thing to be aware of is that, due to the banking system there, each shop may have over half a dozen different credit card machines (one for each bank) and they will try your card in each machine to find one it works with. No reason to panic, just a little strange!

They will usually ask for your passport upon check-in and make a photocopy.

It's quite easy to make a color copy of your passport to carry with you when traveling. Better yet --- make several and put one in your luggage ---- another in your wallet etc. I have one that's laminated that I carry on me while out of the country. It would also be invaluable if you lose your passport while abroad. Once I arrive at my destination I store it in a safe or other secure place. I never go out into the streets with my passport --- never
