Etihad upgrade algorithm

I've been Etihad guest gold for the past few years and fly the LHR-AUH-BKK route return 6 or 7 times a year in economy, which is usually full. I hadn't been upgraded for quite a while and then got upgraded on the AUH- BKK leg outbound and AUH -LHR on the return. The previous month I had flown with Oman air and as they are a partner of Etihad, I claimed miles with Etihad. So my question is: Did the EY upgrade bot see that I'd flown with Oman and said here's a couple of upgrades, don't fly with another airline again or was it just a coincidence.

Probably not - I flew EY about 18 months ago for the first time in about 10 years. Got an upgrade from J to F from AUH - LHR on the A380

Wow consider yourself lucky, as an EG Platinum since 2015 I haven't been given an operational upgrade since before Covid and I fly alot with Etihad. I was given United Silver for being in Bonvoy and was upgraded on 1st flight ever with United.

Etihad Guest sucks if you're a frequent flyer.

I was Thai Royal Orchid gold for several years and never got an upgrade, except for the upgrade vouchers that they gave each year as a birthday present.

I've been Etihad Gold for past 4 years and I've gotten quite a few upgrades mainly on AUH-LHR, both from economy to business and business to first. Have also been upgraded on ICN-AUH, MNL-AUH, MNL - AUH and CGK - AUH, these were in economy to business. I think I'm 3/5 for being upgraded from business to first on EY61. I guess it just depends on flight loads and the kind of ticket you buy, especially with their rebranded fare types, I'm almost always booking deluxe fares.

You and me both. I last got upgraded in May 2014. Since then I've taken a cumulative 90 flights with Etihad as either Gold or Platinum.

I've been gold with Etihad since 2015 and I had a lot of operational ugrades to business pre-covid, on average every third leg. Post-covid, I only received one, recently on AUH-LHR leg.
