The ‘Residence lounge’ aka ‘private room’ is separate from the First lounge, somewhat like TPR with SQ. You can access the F lounge when arriving in Residence even if your next flight is in Business, but you cannot use the Residence lounge if your onward flight is not in the Residence.

Anyway the Residence lounge doesn’t have a bed. If you want to sleep there are private bedrooms downstairs in the Business lounge.

Thanks for the details and pointing me to the bedrooms in the business lounge. I was resigned to napping on the couch in the private room.

I wouldn’t say that the relaxation rooms in the Business Lounge are actual bedrooms.

It’s more like a space with 6–7 “rooms” separated by walls that are about 180-190 cm high. There’s no bed, it’s more like a couch, and you can hear snoring and other noises from the neighboring “rooms.”

So I would still prefer napping in the residence lounge ;)

Question for those that have flown the residence and were traveling with more than 2 pax.

So we were supposed to fly the residence Mar 10th. Given everything that happened, we unfortunately did not make that flight.

our hope is now to do it next April when we go to Greece and go out of our way a bit to take the flight. Mainly as we have 400k Etihad miles now that we have no other use for. This next time though our daughter who will be 12yo next year would be with us as this would be during spring break.

Me and the wife would be in the residence and we would book her a 1st class seat. What are the FA’s policy with visitation between other 1st class passengers? Especially ones that are your own child? We’d feel awful if we booked it and she wouldn’t be allowed to visit us in the residence and we could only go out to visit her. Would she be allowed to visit us?

In the plane no issue hanging out in the suite, though it's not exactly massive for 2 - a bit cosy on the sofa TBH. From what I know, the restriction is they won't cater the F&B together because there are some differences in how the menu and F&B is presented (i.e. the person not in the Residence will need to eat in their own suite). My friend just ate separately anyway.

I have always found EY crew to be fantastic and recently I choose to fly EY over EK to UAE because of the space and relaxed nature of the flight (and nice it's cheaper). While there are certainly areas for improvement in terms of the suite (bed could be softer and chair less slippery) and it is slowly getting a bit worn, I absolutely love the space and the personalised attention with such a small cabin. Their entertainment has improved and the WiFi generally works (unlike EK). Wine selection is extremely poor for F, but otherwise F&B is right up there. I haven't flown Singaporean F which I assume fixes the above issues. Showers/bathrooms are better on EK. Residence is a unique product which I very much enjoyed.

See post by Y Class. And I have read elsewhere that the FA are accommodating relative to your travel situation....

Thanks. Yeah forgot to ask the question about 3 in the residence room in AUH. I have heard they accommodate one 1st and 1 Resience (that makes sense as in theory the 1st could be in the residence as it is for two people, but the other person just didn’t upgrade) but wasn’t sure if the lounge room would allow 2 residence and 1 first if that person is a child. If they don’t we’d just hangout in the 1st class lounge and that’s fine. The bigger issue is if our daughter isn’t allowed to come visit us in the residence. She’d be very annoyed not getting to see it and hang out with us for at least a little bit.

They're generally quite friendly and accommodating in my experience so long as don't abuse the system and disturb others...

Has anyone tried to book a 12yo on their own on Etihad. I want to book the residence for me and my wife on points in 1st and upgrade. We will pay cash for a 1st class ticket for our daughter. Will the system allow me to just buy a single 1st class ticket without us attached to our daughter on the PNR?

I'm not sure if it will allow you to do that or not. I've almost never used a travel agent, but I ended up doing so for a flight on Etihad in just over a week. Similar to you, my wife and I have the residence, while I booked first class suites for my 12 year old and 5 year old.

The travel agent has made two separate bookings. One for myself and my wife, so that we could make the residence upgrade, and one for my two children. She has then linked the two bookings so they know the kids aren't on their own. I suspect you will be able to buy a single first class ticket for a 12 year old, but we needed to go the extra step due to the 5 year old.

Thank you. I didn’t even think about that 12 is considered an “adult” when booking so shouldn’t be an issue and then I will link call and link the reservations after. Thank you.

We had 6 of us. 5 booked in F, 1 in Residence. Zero issues with the group in the Residence Lounge Room, though honestly it was a bit cramped for 6 so we mainly used it as a place to store our bags, and sat in the restaurant. And onboard zero issues with mixing and mingling in the residence as long as everyone was ticketed in F. Crew were spectacular. It seems like they were used to families/big groups.

Thank you. This was super helpful. I just hope we actually get to go on it this next time....

Is it possible to fly any routing from BKK to JFK in the Residence? I only see J. No F at all....

JFK doesn’t have the a380 right?

olindacat Apr 16, 2026 8:03 pm

I don't think so, but have never flown Ethiad, and know their schedule is messed up. Seems like I can only get to NYC in J, which has me looking at Qatar as I read their J is a little nicer. Emirates F is a consideration, but I don't drink, which is part of their appeal to many. I just need space as I don't fly well.

I think they're starting (or will be starting) BKK-AUH on the A380, but between AUH and JFK would not be on The Residence. You could fly AUH-YYZ in Residence, then find your own flight back YYZ-JFK.
