Ongoing Issue: Broken Point Transfers from Citi TYP & AmEx MR to Etihad

For the past week or so I have been trying to transfer points from my amex MR account to my EY account. Every time the points are deducted from my MR balance, nothing happens for 48 hours, and then the points are returned to my MR account.

Based on this thread (which is over a month old at this point) there are similar issues for Citi TYP: Problem transferring Citi Thankyou points to Etihad Guest

I can also say from personal experience that when I tried to do a transfer from my TYP balance I got this error message: “When we tried to complete your Points Transfer, we encountered a system error. Please try again or contact Customer Service for help.”

Ben from OMAAT also has a blog post discussing the issue and judging by the comments the issue appears to be widespread. The comments are informative but I think a FT thread is more conducive to ongoing conversation/updates.

This thread is for people to share their experiences - I am particularly interested to see some datapoints for when this MR issue first started occurring.

Also, if anyone has figured out a work-around or has a good customer service point-of-contact that can help escalate these issues and/or get the points to stick that would be much appreciated.

One more thing: I spoke with an EY agent in their Serbian call center and he acknowledged that they are aware of the issue and their IT department is looking into it...so that's good news but feel free to complain to EY, Amex, and Citi in order to increase the pressure to get this fixed asap

Same issue for me, I tried 2x. Some representatives from EY say there is an ongoing issue and others say no problems but it takes time.

The Amex website now says points transfers to EY are not available at this time.

Yep, I see the same thing. Well at least that means they are aware it's broken...now we just gotta hope for a quick fix

The twist of irony, I got from EY 1st of April an email "BobFF68, transfer now to enjoy 20% extra miles. Limited time only!" Nice April fool

Knowing the "competence and quickness" of EY IT team in solving their issues i just hope nobody is in hurry for points transfer.

It's apparently a problem at Etihad:

I think ThePointsguy and/or Doctorofcredit sites also had a blurb on this.

I can't get a straight answer from either American Express or Etihad.

Yup, it is a problem with Etihad. See my 2nd post in this thread. EY has already acknowledged the problem is on their side and their IT team is working on it.

But i dont understand how kelix was able to get a transfer to go through...

Seems like Kelix transferred from Amex Australia, not from Amex US.

Ah yeah, maybe that's it. I was interpreting AU from his post to mean Authorized User but maybe it was Australia

I got a call from American Express Membership Rewards Inquiry Team yesterday. I spoke with two different reps, both of which were unaware of the ongoing issue before I told them to look at the website (where it says transfers are not available). They both told me that EY rejected the points and that they were awaiting a response from EY.
