New A380 Route from 1st July - EY450 back to 777 :(

Just seen the news about Seoul getting A380 from 1st July - https://www.etihad.com/en-ae/about-u...seoul-service/

Looking at the schedules EY450 is returning to 777 service from 1st July to accommodate this change. Not great news for SYD travellers :(

That poses the question where will the 78X currently serving EY876 will be put to use? Let the rumour mill begin!

residentx Feb 11, 2019 12:39 pm

My booking for 450/451 in November still shows as a 388.

Isn't EY450/451 a 777 currently? Pretty sure it's EY454/455 that's the 380

There is a mixture of B777 and A380 services ATM, from 1st July it'll be B777 only.

According to Routesonline

Abu Dhabi – Sydney EY450/451 operated by 777-300ER, instead of A380 (Dates based on AUH departure)
28OCT18 – 04DEC18 Daily
17DEC18 – 29JAN19 Day 1 (Day 2 from SYD)
07FEB19 – 30MAY19 Daily

So that's an A380 stuck idle in ICN for over 12 hours - I wonder why they don't retime the return flight to 7pm or so, which will connect with the 2am bank of departures to Europe. I guess they are getting a lot of business from people wanting to fly out of ICN after a full day at the office?

Someone must have given a newly minted local “manager” the opportunity to make an impression the minute they’ve left school.

Terrible use of time of that, locking up 2 A380s per day to run that schedule. I really don’t think that ICN is such a heavy route to warrent that aircraft.

Yet another move that makes it look like EY really have not got a clue what they are doing.

I think they will put 787 to Dublin route.
When you check google flights in August it shows 787 on PM route.

flying_fozzy Feb 13, 2019 8:44 am

Well they kinda have to. They’ve pledged to get rid of A330s AFAIK, so a route like DUB is ripe for it.
DUS already has 789 rotations dipping in and out (remember this was the inaugural 787 route), before they drop to one daily 789 on that route. Another A330 for the trash.

im kinda surprised though. Not like they’re thirsty like the A345/346?? I suppose they aren’t filling the belly with cargo too much either.

JayCee1966 Feb 13, 2019 10:31 am

It looks like the 78X from ICN route will be used on PVG (Shanghai) route, EY just announced Chinese route changes from 1st July With Chengdu getting 789. EY are taking plenty of 787 deliveries at the moment so DUB will get there in the end...

I'm looking forward to the 1st A350-1000 delivery and route announcement. MSN#290 is in final assembly in TLS according to various sources.

Was speaking to someone who works at Etihad the other week; they lose an absolute tonne of money every time an A380 takes to the skies, apparently. The financials do not stack up (on any of their routes).

Really disappointed as I will be on the 451!!!

residentx Feb 26, 2019 4:32 am

I was notified today of this metal change.

Called up to change to the A380n rotation and told it would cost me £280. I told them this was within the rules but unfair, first a time change on my flight and now a metal change. They said I pay or I can have a full refund.

Amazing they will let a customer walk away from a £4500 flight for not getting their £280 of fees.

Interestingly I rang them up about 2 days after the schedule change was published. The agent had no idea what I was referring to when I mentioned the change from First apartment to 777 First, but after some discussions we were able to our award booking changed free of charge. So whilst it didn't work this out it may be worth to HUACA.

I've got a booking that is currently a 777 (450) in mid-May, and then a 380 (451) in early June....

Taoyuan Jul 29, 2019 1:58 am

Any idea what's going on with this flight (ICN)? I see it goes out with a 333 often. Is this planned or an operational change?

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like Flightaware is just showing weird data.
