"Transfer" to Emirates

Ola

Anyone have any experience or tips on whether it's possible to transfer Etihad Gold status to another airline, say Emirates?

You can't transfer. If you are lucky they may match your status with the equivalent in their loyalty programme. Send them an email

Alitalia will match you!

See the status match thread in the Alitalia forum.

Thanks for the helpful responses.

eddibabyyeah- ah yes, I meant status match.
traveldaddy - shame, as like you I too wont move my travel across for silver.
irishguy - good to know though I'll likely give Alitalia a miss. I have for some reason the impression that their safety record isnt all that great!

Sounds like Akbar Al Baker was taking customer service requests that day.

Why not ? Its gratis without any obligations. And EKs silver isn't bad, you have lounge access in DXB, baggage allowance, priority checkin & boarding, miles upgrade inflight and bonus miles everytime you fly.

Since status match is a one-time thing, i anticpiate travelling more as EY gold than EK silver - why waste the opportunity? It seems EK is matching gold now though so that is definitely more enticing.

For info, my dad requested a status match from EY silver (6 months remaining) to EK silver - it was accepted within a few days. Seriously impressed by EK customer service - so much more efficient than my experience with EY over the last few years.
