Refunding/changing second EY segment?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

I have booked on Etihad Airways next April to travel to Australia for a wedding. However due to circumstances I only need to use the first flight so need to re-book the second one.

Will I get fined for not showing up for the return flight?

Also, anyone know if Etihad due full refunds? If they do I'd just cancel and book on Emirates for a return flight on my specific days.

Many thanks for your help!

blackie17 Welcome to FT

No one can answer your question on FT.
It all depends on the ticket terms & condtions. Cheaper tickets are more restrictive
Phone Etihad and ask or your travel agent, if you used a TA.

No, but missing any segment of your ticket will mean the remaining segments will be cancelled.

Etihad does do full refunds if you purchased a fully refundable ticket. If you purchased a deep discount economy fare it may well be non refundable. The change/cancellation options that were shown and agreed to when you originally booked will apply.

The starting point is to read the fare rules for your specific ticket. Nobody here can do that for you.

Despite the fact that some (DL!) suggest that your carrier is really the government, it isn't. It can't fine you. It also can't send hooded agents to kidnap you and force you onto your return flight. Just make certain that if you skip the return, that it really is the last segment you intend to use.

Whether you can get a refund for the return segment or change it depends on the specific fare rules. The former is almost certainly a 'no' unless you bought a refundable fare, which I doubt you did. There is no punishment for skipping your return flight, but all remaining segments will disappear with it.

You may find that a one-way on Emirates from Australia to wherever you live will be very expensive (possibly half of a full-fare). Check this out before you decide to skip your final flight. You are probably better off paying a change fee on your existing ticket.

Welcome to Flyertalk blackie17.

Please follow up with more details as to the type of ticket you purchased. Until then, we'll move your post to the EY forum.
