Changes to Etihad' booking classes
I received the following email today:
On 14 September 2015, Etihad Airways will launch Fare Choices. For all bookings ticketed before that date, the existing rules apply. Fare Choices offer our guests the ability to tailor their journey according to their needs. Some guests want to travel light and on a budget, whilst others want to be able to make last-minute travel decisions, carry extra baggage or earn more miles. We have created new Fare Choices for our Economy, Business and First Class guests. They vary by: How flexible you need it to be What baggage allowance you need How many miles you will earn What other benefits you value when you travel - priority check-in, chauffeur service, upgrade eligibility Fare choices apply to all bookings, whether you buy through your travel agency, our Contact Centre, or etihad.com. Guest Seat Priority Check in
Strangest one (for me) is this:
GUEST SEAT - Priority check-in Based on tier status And what about MFU and PlusGrade? |

Can't tell if this will be a good or bad, but knowing our luck - bad.
|
Just when I thought it couldn't get worse than the last devaluation
|
The check-in based on tier status is definitely a real downgrade. Luckily I have booked my 6 award flights in first and business for next February so the old rules apply and I will be able to use premium check in. Lounga access reamins unchanged. Doesn't seem to make any sense to me but would not stop me from booking a J or F award in the future if it was best for my needs. Limo service remains for award flights from what I see which is a much important benefit.

Edit: yes, indeed.

Disappointing
Yet another reason to reconsider Etihad. In particular the reduction in luggage...
|
The new excess luggage rates from the US/Canada are abhorrent.
Currently an additional 23 kg box is $140-$175, depending on it it was booked online or at the airport (used to $137/500AED a few years ago). The new rates put it at $210 online/$300 at the airport. Extra weight from 23-32 kg goes from a flat $50 (payable only at the airport) to $87.5 (online) to $125 (airport). I frequently travel with extra weight/pieces, and this change alone will push me completely to Emirates. |
Business breaking deals
I wonder how much cheaper this type of fare will be compared to Business a Saver. From BKK to MAN a saver ticket is approx £850
|
This airline stinks in their maneuvers! For me I was only sticking around because of the preclearance but I dont think that's a really big deal and to hell with them. I just want to avoid it completely. A big boo to EY
