Etihad print e-ticket required?
Okay, so perhaps this is naive of me, but I couldn't find any other threads on this. My SO's parents are flying EY from NRT. Their email says,
Please note that a printout of your e-ticket (in English) will be required at the airport check-in. |
It is never a bad idea to take printouts of all of your travel documents with you. In case of any issue, query or question (and sometimes immigration authorities will wish to see your confirmed itinerary) it is just handier for everyone if you can just hand over the piece of paper.
On my last trip through NRT, I was stopped by police in the concourse on my way from the train to the checkin desks, and asked to show my travel documents. |
It may not be the airline's requirement, but for the security clearance in airport. Example, any airport in India requires the print eticket to be shown to the security guards before you can enter the airport itself.

Indeed...now that you mention it I can remember having to show a printout of my itinerary to access the checkin area at CGK, too. And being turned away because I was "too early to go through".
To the OP: you never know when or where along your journey you will meet an official - even if they are a mere jobsworth - demanding to see your itinerary/confirmation/e-ticket. It's better to always have it on you. |

Surely this can't be true? Does EY really require a printout of the e-ticket for check-in? Or is this just a suggestion to make it easier for the airport staff? First of all, thank you for flying with Etihad. Please note that as you can check in online and print out your boarding pass on your portable device. A paper ticket is not mandatory by our end. While a paper travel documents may be helpful when passing the immigration or airport security. To prevent any inconvenience, we recommend to bring a paper documents with you. Hope this may help you. Thanks. *JS |
I suspect that the suggestion is to bring a hard copy of the ticket receipt (with ticket number) and not to print the actual ticket, which to me would mean converting the e-ticket to paper tickets.

Many airports (or authorities) check travel documents. The ticket, whether it's a paper ticket or an e-ticket receipt, is simply the best document to show that you belong where you are.
Or put better, as the border / security folks want it, you need to have it. If EK didn't tell you, some might not know and all manner of teeth-nashing then occurs. |

That's clearly not what is meant. But I'm also struggling to see how the term "a printout of your e-ticket (in English)" could ever be interpreted that way!!! (Do they even still use paper tickets anywhere, anymore? North Korea perhaps???) |
Sitting here in Dulles, so used to not printing out tickets - just realized I do not have the etickets. Do have the online check in boarding passes though which I guess I will show when checkin starts... And of course iPad/iPhone with the actual information. Fun times indeed.
