Etihad - Alitalia Partnership
EY purchased of a 49% stake in Alitalia last year.
New daily routes to AUH from AZ from MXP (B772) and VCE (A332) starting 29th March were announced

These days a new Alitalia network strategy was announced. New flights from Bologna and Catania to AUH will be launched with single-aisle equipment soon.
AZ will transfer 14 A320 to AB while AZ will acquire long-haul aircrafts from EY.

Interesting to see that AZ is allowed to expand with new destinations into Asia whereas AB gave up all their flights. With the new destinations MEX and SCL (as well as the existing destinations EZE, GIG, GRU, CCS) FCO could be used as a hub for Latin America.
