Just to correct the info.
AUH = Abu Dhabi AUD = Augustus Airport in Australia. But yes it will be there. |
Oops, my bad, of course AUH = Abu Dhabi. Thanks for info. So we'll allow a little extra time before departure from AUH to complete the formalities, then should be on our way quickly once we touch down at IAD.

Anyone have any recent info on how the preclearance is going?
Are the Global Entry kiosks operational yet? If we get to the airport 1-1/2 hours before departure time, travelling in First, do we risk missing the flight? Thanks for any info. |

Guys - if I'm flying BOM-JFK, what does pre-clearance exactly do for me? I guess my luggage will go straight from BOM to JFK. So with pre-clearance, is it just checking out my passport by CBP officers?
Thx |
Most likely they will show you pic of your baggage for identification.

Ok, Hopefully they don't make us collect luggage from carousel and repeat the check-in process because that would be a hassle

Transited through AUH yesterday, the preclearance was a nightmare and took a good 60 mins (flying first and with my husband requiring a wheelchair). First problem is the second security check which involves the usual removal of shoes, laptops, all other electronics and camera equipment. This after we'd already cleared one security checkpoint. That alone probably takes an hour if you don't have priority.
No kiosk yet but should be one shortly. Customs/immmigration done as one with our luggage being identified by a photo. No lounge or anywhere for premium pax to wait once through clearance and, with over two hours between flights still had no time to get to the Etihad lounge. The main issue is that three flights leave for the US within minutes which means a large number of pax simultaneously. Something will have to be done to improve this if this becomes permanent. |

In comparison I found AUH system better back in May as it is a common for US flts., you are not feeling jailed in a tiny gate area. Cheers R |
