Etihad Business on A332 - old or new?
I just booked some flights for February on Etihad and am looking forward to my trip. It will my first time flying with them and have a few questions. I am booked in F from JFK - AUH on the A346 and then connecting down to CPT on one of the 2 class A332's. Does anyone know if Etihad has been refurbishing business on any of the 2 class A332's? At this point we are expecting to get the older seat down to Cape Town, but didn't know if there was a chance we would be able to experience the new seat. Has anyone recently done this route in business with comments on food or service either? Thanks in advance!

From my understanding, Etihad does not seem to be actively upgrading its business class seats to the new version unlike the first suite. The new business class seat seems only appear on new aircraft like 330-300 or new 777-300ER. I am just speculating on this though. If this is the case I think it is unlikely you will get the new business class seat. In all honesty there is little difference, but the small differences rectify a few problems with the new seat:
So it really is just a refinement in an already industry leading business class seat. A lot of airlines have copied this type of seat since Etihad introduced it.
- More storage space
- 74 inch bed compared to the older 73 inch bed
- Less bumps when the seat is a bed
- More shoulder space when the bed is down so it doesnt feel as narrow

Tranfers between flights
Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know if there is special handling for First class passengers on the ground in Abu Dhabi beyond the first class lounge? Special car transfers to and from flights? Escort service to the First Class Lounge? Or to the connecting flight? Given that we are arriving in First from NY and transferring to business down the Cape Town (no first class on the flight), do we still get First class ground treatment?
