What a nasty, elitist thing to say! Nowadays, I always fly F and J, but have flown plenty of Y flights when I was younger. Keep in mind that 80%+ of the flying public has to fly Y - there's no need to be condescending!

I've flown in economy countless of times. The only time that was unbearable was when we caught ME from LCA to SYD via SIN during the July war in 2006 (flight chartered for Aus. DFAT) We had a group that had just arrived by ferry from Beirut and they hadn't had the chance to go to the hotel to freshen up.
holtju2's post is no where near appropriate, though I thought he was trying to be funny humoring the title of this thread (Stuck in Y).

Interesting, does the 777-200LR on DXB-LAX have the media box under A & K ?
Am sure this question has been asked a million times here... got stuck in a K a while back, lost my shoe, while sleeping. The media box ate it and shat it out in to the row in front of me
OP if its confirmed that A & K have the media box, avoid those seats.

I would not recommend the selecting seats far apart from eachother (and then trying to change with someone if it doesn't work out.)
On 3 of my last 4 EK flights someone decided to hijack my (chosen well in advance) seat because they were pregnant/ their kid wanted to look out of the window / they wanted to sit with their kid / they just liked the seat etc. etc. First two times I gave in. Third time I was started a yelling match with the person. (When I said I'd rather keep my seat they started arguing with me - and it was a window bulkhead for a middle non bulkhead!)
rant over.
Anyways, even if you don't select a seat - the EK booking system will select seats for you together.
I would stick with the seats in the back that are 2 on the side.
Cheers,
