Footrests
I did a search on footrests and found very little however I am prompted by my recent trip MEL-DXB to write a small note.
I flew EK for the first time (as I typically fly OW) at the beginning of last month. (sorry for my lateness posting this but have been holed up in TIP with very little internet access) I must admit I was somewhat impressed with the service of the cabin attendants. I can't say I was impressed with the seat layout and lack of foot rests on the plane. It was an an A350 and it was 2 5 2 config and every window seat appeared to have control box under it. The guy I was sitting next to told me they had recently (within 6 months) removed them (the footrests). I found myself having to sit up to keep my feet on the floor other wise the 14+ hours with my feet 2 inches above the floor was causing me some discomfort. I asked the flight attendant about it and she said it was a common complaint at present but that no-one had really made any fuss. Does anyone have any more info regarding that? I particularly found it difficult due to the metal bar running through the cushion at the front of the seat. Either way the fight was not at all comfortable. I flew a 777 to TIP about three hours later and it was much more comfortable and I had no complaints about that flight. |
1. 100% agree with you - I read somewhere it was due to weight reductions (come on) .. but this I can't believe it. If it is because of cost reductions, so why remove it? Furthermore, as a premium airline, I don't believe it would offset the limitation of customer experience. Plus, a footrest like this will be depreciated over 20 years so who cares
2. It was the infamous A332 and not the A350. Think Airbus would be quite happy to hear that their A350 is already flying.. ;) |

I was glad when they took out the footrests. I'm pretty tall, so I couldn't use them anyway, and I constantly banged my shins on them :D
