Refuelling Stop Melbourne

Flying later this year with Emirates from Dubai to Auckland. Flight has a refuelling stop in Melbourne or Brisbane or Sydney. We will be in First Class.

Are passengers kept onboard during this stop of about 1hr 45 minutes or can one get off to wander the terminal or lounge? Although the stop is short compared to the total length of the journey, stopovers can feel like the longest part if kept onboard.

All passengers (including transit) must deplane. It's a security requirement in Oz.

Yep, get off and have a shower in the lounge, followed by a few drinks ands snack. Nice and refreshed for the shortish flight to AKL.

Cheers,
Rick

Welcome to Flyer Talk campo Steve :)

You have to disembark, take carryon with you and go through security. Australia has liquids rule so don't bother getting liquids >100ml on departure in DXB.

When I passed through BNE a couple of weeks ago international transit was closed off so as to ensure all pax go past the thermal cameras. It may or may not be reopened by now (I'd assume so otherwise they'll need a much longer transit time to cater for all the through pax). I've had international transits at MEL & SYD more recently and at both those airports international transit was open.

SYD & BNE (can't remember for MEL sorry but probably also) have a nice EK lounge near international transits.

Just to confim then, when you get off and go to the transit area you can go to the Emirates lounge and get a shower etc? You aren't just herded into an area with 300 or so other people from the flight.

Have I got that right?

EK_Flyer Jun 16, 2009 2:16 am

Yes, you can use the lounge & showers ... No, you wont be herded ...

That's great. I'll be booking this evening.
