Please help me with EK flight upgrades
 

Hi guys,

I will be flying with EK in July for my honeymoon between ICN (Korea) and JNB (Johannesburg) with a stop in Dubai. I was looking forward to trying first class suites (they look awsome BTW) but I'm 'forced' to make Business class reservation. To that end I'm seeking to find a solution for possible upgrade.
My questions are as below:

1. If I choose to pay extra at the airport, would the additional cost be the same as if I bought a first class ticket straight away? (for the flight, the difference between biz and first ticket was much less than I expected)

2. Is there anyone who got a free upgrade during their honeymoon?

I'm a bit desperate since I was really looking forward to flying in first class.
Please let me know if you guys have any other tips.

Then why didn't you book it?

The only way to guarantee F class is to upgrade before you get to the airport. If you're ticket is upgradeable, you can do this by phoning EK.

EK will not upgrade you just because it's your honeymoon.

It depends if you are Gold Card Member or Silver Card Member. If you have a gold card, sometimes if the flight is full, they automatically upgrade you to the next level. I am a silver card member and have been upgrade couple of times when the flight is full.

But thats a chance you take, in case the flight is not full, they dont upgrade, you could request but its unlikely.

Even if you pay at the airport, the price would be the same as paying before.

I would suggest paying if you want it that badly!

There are never any guarentees of upgrades, I am gold and have received a good few from J to F and Y to J, but again, like others only when the flights have been full.

I have flown lots with EK over the last few months and have nOT seen a full flight nor have received an upgrade!

Congrats on the wedding. Be sure to tell the purser, as I am sure you will receive extra special attention!
