I am travelling Houston to Bangalore on 2nd April. I leave on 2nd from Houston and get into Dubai on 3rd around 6:45 pm. My flight to Bangalore is at 3:30 am on 4th April, which means that there is close to 9 hours lay over at Dubai. I plan to come out of the airport and go back before my Bangalore flight at 1:30 am. I have two bags that I would like to checkin at Houston and would be leaving the bags at Dubai. Since my ticket is all the way to Bangalore, will I be able to collect the bags at Dubai and re-checkin with only hand baggage on the flight to Bangalore? I called up EK and they were not quite sure since my layover is less than 24 hours?

Can someone please advise?

Just ask them to check you bags through to DXB when you check in at IAH. They will give you both boarding passes when you check in.

Assuming you have the relevant Visa, you can then collect your luggage at DXB, and then just go back through immigration with your onward BP.
