The Trolley - yes or no?

Question. Is Emirates a winner or a loser with that dessert trolley?

Emirates is not my first airline, but I recently took 4 J legs with them and they were good. On one of the four, I even got lucky and had a lie-flat bed which I have to say was superb :D On the other 3, I had the big pink chairs which reminded me why I always avoid them. Anyway!

The thing that really, really stood out for me is how tediously, painfully slow the meal service is in the J cabin. Am I alone in this? Really, 3 hours to serve dinner?

I think the trolley is a particular factor in this problem. At dessert time I was so bored I told CC I would skip. "Are you sure you don't want just some fruits?" she asked sweetly. Go on then, I said, I'll take some fruits, hoping she would just skip off to the galley and bring me a plate.

An hour later that clanking trolley finally arrived at my side and I manually selected 3 mango, 2 pineapple, 1 fig etc. etc.

Incidentally I noticed on this flight if you DID want dessert, there was no choice except a flamboyantly large french choux pastry bun with cream spilling out, so not sure why a trolley is needed for that?

Why don't EK just plate up their meals and bang them on your tray like everyone else? Does anyone like the trolley?

I love the trolley !!! Ok I problably don't fly in J as much as you do so I still enjoy every single minute of each flight. But at the end of the day so what if the meal service takes 3 hours ... You're not in a hurry, are you ? Let's enjoy the enjoyable moments ... We are all very lucky to be able to fly in Premium classes ... EK service is brilliant, the cabin crew always on top, I've never had to complain ...
Although I never had the chance to try the lie-flat seats, I'm looking forward to do so ... I'm from the French speaking part of Switzerland where, like in France, we still take time to enjoy what we are given, especially meals ... I suppose it's a cultural thing.:)

Sometimes yes sadly - on a 6hr 30 flight UK-DXB if I have to work. Or sleep. I love your attitude though :D

I have to say they were magnificent. 500% better than the pink chairs. It will show up on the EK website in Manage My Booking, if your flight has these.

Yes, and how I envy that. Don't lose it!

I suppose my point was, if you are in a hurry and don't want a trolley, perhaps CC can serve an expedited service for the miserable Anglo-Saxon wage slaves like us. I wouldn't want to deprive you of the trolley now Julmops.

I totally understand your point of view ... I'm not a busy businessman myself, I'm just flying to India twice a year to supervise and review our new Customer Services Department in Bangalore so when I'm flying, I just have to worry about indulging myself ... So maybe my previous remarks weren't as relevant as they should have. Still I agree with you on the fact that one could choose the quick service to save time or the full one with all the trimmings ... :p:p:p

What's wrong with pink?

I do like the trolleys but I'd have to agree, it takes too long to be served but that's mainly because I fly the red eye flights so I just want to have a small nibble & then sleep. But how can I knowing there's goodies being served :p

The pinkness is the best thing about them!

Having spent the past three years losing 15kg I say ban the trolley. It is far to tempting!!

I agree - once I see what's on it, I always order more than I should!!

I have sympathy with both sides. :)

I love the bow to old fashioned, "proper" service. But in a full J cabin that does translate into "slow". And lots of people do have to eat and run (so to speak) however much they would like to linger. Still, there is so little left in air travel that is classy these days, it would be a pity if trolley service were to go too.

All in all it works much better in F where the CC/pax ratio is much higher. Even there it can be a bit OTT. Sometimes trundling a whole trolley out every time somebody wants a bit of cheese or another piece of fruit seems ludicrously clunky. A tray would suffice in many instances.

I agree, but my experience is that if you ask, they'll bring it to you, straight-away.
