New Terminal at DBX?
Sorry if this has been done before, but does anyone know when the new DBX terminal is going to open? It is really needed and will make a big difference (along with reducing the sudden price hikes) to my decision on whether to come back to EK or not.

I don't think a date has been announced as yet. I think someone on here had said it would now be in the Autumn, so probably October.

Hi,
the latest info can be found here: http://www.dubaiairport.com/DIA/Engl...+T3+trials.htm Looks like either A380 will be delayed or they'll have to find a way to handle it without T3? |
Terminal 3 is on target to open later this year. ^
The problem is that no one seems to know what the target is. :td: Al Maktoum International Airport (Jebel Ali) will open for business in 2009, starting with freight flights, followed by low-cost and charter and then who knows... |

Stands F12 and F13 (equating to Gate 23 and 25) in T1 are capable of handling A380s. They were upgraded back in 2006/7 and the airbridges can support dual deck simultaneous pax loading. Rgds Emirates777 |
Seems they're in the final stages, with T3 to be fully operation in all stages by the end of 2008. At least we've got the EK A380 interiors later this month to look forward to...

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I will stick with CX's significantly cheaper J fare from LON-PER for now and look at EK again later in the year. While the airport is a shambles, there really is no reason to pay a £500+ premium for the fare.

It's so strange to hear people describe Dubai Airport as a 'shambles' or 'chaotic'-I guess that's because I arrive in a different inbound bank when there's no connecting wave banks. A few days ago, my flight arrived 5 earlier than scheduled at DXB and went to the gate in no time. I cleared arrivals, customers, collected baggage and was out just 20 minutes after my scheduled arrival time. This is a personal, all-time record. Point is, when DXB folks get it right, they do get it right.

Men making strange clicking noises at my lady friend.
A shamless place of a goat market, I hope the new T3 has a better class of patron, Men making strange clicking noises at my work partner from NYC. And apon entering the toilets to find some one has taken a dump in the urinal. I take it the whole T3 will not be a free A/C bedroom as the present terminal is.

Got told flights would start in Septmeber by the prurser when I flew to Rome last week. I cannot see them opneing T3 during Ramadan so I tend to go with October.
|
I received an email last week asking for volunteers to come and try out the new terminal. It was probably target at UAE residents. I don't have time to stop by though.

I read in AirlinerWorld that the management of DXB doesn't want to have to become LHR BA/BAA T5 Fiasco Part II: Eruption of EK Operations:
'Paul Griffiths, the CEO of airport operator Dubai Airports, said that the new Terminal 3 at the INternational Airport will be opened in stages during the course of this year-in a bid to avoid the problems that marked the opening of London/Heathrow's Terminal 5. The company believes that the decision by the BAA and British Airways to open all of T5 in one day backfired on the airline. Grifitths said that the plan to add flights at the $4.5 billion Terminal 3 on a gradual basis will hopefully smooth the transition. 'It's a verious serious thought that occurs to you when you see it elsewhere, that if you don't manage this in a throrough and professional way, it [Heathrow's T5 problems] could be us' he added. As a result, DUbai Airports will not reveal a single opening date for Terminal 3 until all pre-opening test programmes have been completed. 'We'll be exhaustively testing the terminal systems throughout the summer. We continue to make sure we put large loads on it, week by week, improving reliability' he said. We'll put a few flights in bit bu bit, in waves rather than a big bang'. Terminal 3, which will be used exclusively by Emirates Airline, is expected to nearly double the airport's passenger handling capacity to 65 million per year.' From Airliner World.... |
Just received an invite confirming my participation in the opening trials.
