B777 New Generation

While this is an ongoing project, I was wondering what your experience on EK is like on their Long-Haul 777 flights.

With the Economy Class, I know many have criticized their 3-4-3 (10 abreast) layout having narrow seats, but how is the seat in those New Generation Seating, you know the ones that have the larger 10.6" LCD screens, a single USB port and the AC power outlet? How is the catering and the service overall?

You must be talking about ICE Digital Widescreen.

Don't know about F or Y, but in J there is a significant improvement. The screen is bigger and I find the new Airshow much better graphically in the DW equipped aircraft.

I've flown on one of the 777 New generations in Y from LHR-DXB and the 10.6" screens along with power in economy were very nice. The New airshow was also very nice. I sat on the window seat and i didn't find it too cramped really but im not a big person.

EK Criticised for 3-4-3 in econpmy class? Lots of airlines do that and have far worse setups, i think EK has been the best economy for layout and service that i've flown with.

Not really. The standard layout for the 777 is 3-3-3 or 2-5-2. EK cram in an extra seat across, but they do make up for it by having good service and legroom. AF and KL are in the process of making their 777's 3-4-3.

Well it's just perception, since they're really the only major airline that has this 3-4-3 layout in Economy Class. I know AF is transitioning to that with their 77Ws, Japan's Domestic operated 777s have it too (but that's a totally different story, due to the short sectors). I think AF's (10-abreast Economy in 77W) looks even more cramped than EK's.

Looking at it, I think EK is friendlier with children than AF looking at the entertainment choices alone.

Its the aile whitch is less in size not the seat.

you will find the y class seat the same size as other airlines, its just the size of the aile whitch is less. That why they do not have fat F/As.

Does this even include the B777-200ERs for both of those airlines, I know they're currently converting more 77Ws that don't have the 3-4-3 layout yet?

Well, expect to see the 772's converted soon. I cannot see them maintaining two different layouts for Y in the 772 and the 77W. AF have just announced their new premium economy product at 2-4-2, which will allow them to realign the Y product as an even more budget option. Therefore expect 3-4-3 in Y.

Preminum Experiences

How about your experiences with the Premium Cabins, including the Private Suites in First Class?

Do any of you people have trouble getting comfortable (especially sleeping) in the Lie-Flats in J and Suites in F (especially in a 13hr plus flight)?

Would you say that the Private Suites in First are in the same standards as the CX or SQ First Class seats in the 77W?

Flew in J between DXB-JFK on the 777W ULR & found the seats to be a bit hard, especially when in the lie-flat position but I managed to sleep 7 hours (after taking a sleeping aid). Service & ICE are above average. The food is supposedly "cuisine" but they all tasted like airline food :D

I can tell you about the suites on the A345 that aren't much different from the ones newely installed on the T7.
They're very comfortable with a lot of space, though it feels cramped to be honest. I did not have trouble sleeping good 7/8 hours on my last trip DXB-SYD.

I just flew JFK-DXB-JFK in J on the 77W. Food was slightly better than J on CX J. ICE IFE was significantly better. There must have been over 100 movie choices and many more TV choices. The seat is "lie-straight" with a slight angle relative to the deck - not a true lie-flat bed like CX's new J product but flatter than AA's, but overall they were comfortable. The blanket we pretty thin and at times I was still cold. On one flight my seat would not articulate into all the different positions. The individual controls for headrest, leg rest, etc. are controlled through the touchscreen wireless remote (cool!) or the touchscreen you use for IFE viewing. But my control for the seat, and many others in the cabin did, not work. The only thing that worked were the three preset postion buttons (take-off, eating, sleep) on the armrest. On both flights there were isolated problems with the IFE freezing up and individual seat's IFEs had to be re-booted much to the annoyance of my seat mate. They clearly have bugs to be worked out with the electronics in these seats.

B777-200ERs are to follow with 3x4x3 config. Difference compared to Emirates is that it's 31" seat pitch:(

SQ New First Class is vastly inferior in terms of hard product. I'd say in between SQ New First Class & SQ Suites

Well EK is already miles ahead of the AF-KLM Group, even before their first 777s that have the 3-4-3 configuration.

So would you lean a little more towards the A380 only SQ Suites for the EK's Private Suites' hard product than the 77W only SQ First?
