Flight Durations ?????? Wierd
 

DXB to ICN = 8.75Hrs
ICN to DXB = 10.25Hrs

how come its so much longer on the return? I can allow a bit for the earth spinning but is it really that much? 1.5 Hours?

Who's the expert that can explain this to a numpty.

Also a little issue of prevailing winds. Predominantly W->E in the mid-latitudes. That's where your difference will come from.

In my understanding, when you travel from East to West it always takes longer then the other way round.
I assume it's due to the winds coming from the West (Gulfstream and so on)
But I'm sure we'll find a better and more elaborated answer somewhere ...

thanks guys. It just seems a lot. I mean don't these fly at 600mph or something so an hour is 600miles. To put it another way it around 4200miles between the two. 4200miles / 550mph = 7.6 hours. Allowing for for winds and spinning globes the 6-7hrs or so hours seems correct on the way there. But 10 hours means we are flying at 420mph on the way back.

Its not important. Its just a big difference to my brain.

If planes are leaving/arriving at peak times, EK will schedule extra time for onground delays. When I fly EK5 from Dubai to Heathrow, it is almost always a quicker flight gate to gate than EK7. In fact, sometimes almost an 1hr difference in consecutive weeks.

don't we just all love the way we get called to gate and hour early. Sit around waiting for ages....get let on board and then sit around a bit more. Sometimes a lot more!.....at least I will be sat in the first few people with my orange juice in hand. It might be an additional 45m - 1h on the flight time under normal circumstances.

and there are always the ones that arrive really late for some unknown reason.
