Emirates Chauffeur Drive Rules Updated
http://www.emirates.com/TravellerInf...iveService.asp
There have been some changes effective 01 JUL 2007. Unfortunately the distance for J class pax from LHR is now "only" 50 driven miles, and the rates have gone up for going over the distance. Also, some clarifications have been made (e.g. the service is valid for LGA/JFK transfers - but not EWR/JFK ones - and includes gratuity and tolls. This had been asked on the board quite a few times.) Cheers |

I wonder how they arrive at their distance limits? Eg comparing MEL with MAN, 60 km or 35 miles for MEL, compared with (currently) 80 miles for MAN - where petrol is twice the price.

I think the UK limits are so large because passengers from many different parts of the UK commute to big airports such as MAN,BHX,LHR,GLA etc from smaller towns in order to fly EK onto Dubai. I don't think the same is true for MEL.
Cheers You're correct in your assumption about the why the UK CD mileage limits are so large. You also have to remember that carriers like BA (routing via LHR/LGW), AF (via CDG), KL (via AMS) and LH (via FRA/MUC) are all wooing regional passengers with transfer connections. Offering a premium traveller based in EDI a free ride to GLA (some 60 miles away) to take EK's direct flight is a way of competing, say, with KL who will be trying to get the passenger to fly EDI-AMS-DXB. |
any news on NCL ?
I know EK is starting NCL on sept. the first , 2007 , but non of the website show whether Chauffeur driven service will be available for J pax .

Perhaps that suggests EK will come up with a chauffeur offer to encourage passengers based, say, in E or N Yorkshire to use NCL rather than MAN. |
