Cut off for A/C changes?

Having just read a posters experience of changes to A/C type on BHX/DXB I'm worried about our Christmas trip to Bangkok. Can anyone predict when the actual A/C type will be fixed? Up to now all the available info points to refurb'd 777/200's on these two sectors!!!

The cynic in me says your AC type isn't set in stone until you're en route and past the midway point of the flight.

Realistically, though, aircraft swaps can happen at any time, and airlines frequently alter their fleet allocations during holiday periods to closely match capacity with demand. All of this is to say that EK will probably stick with the loaded 772, but don't be surprised to see up/downgauges if the loads are very heavy/light on your day of travel

It's never guaranteed. If the plane they were due to fly goes tech., then they may send an older 777 - but this would be an exceptional circumstance.

However, I do think you need to chill out. You'll make yourself ill worrying about it too much :)

Although ICE is good, the older system is probably better than most other airlines. The service/food/drink will still be as good whatever aircraft you are on.

Cheers,
Rick

Rick,
thanks for your concern over my health but no need to worry. To be honest I'm more interested in the seats than ICE as my wife has Arthritis,Asthma oh and epilepsy too tho under complete control. We travel to BKK at least once per year and last year in an attempt to make the journey bearable for she who shall be obeyed I shelled out on Thai biz class and it was wonderful, don't want any disappointment this year especially as we're going for Christmas and new year(just)

Here's a fun little story:

EK603 Early Sep this year.

Scheduled to be a 777-300ER. I check it everyday, still 777-300ER. I check it before I leave for the airport, 777-300ER. I arrive at the airport and ask - I'm told its a 77W. I go to the gate. Lo and behold, a nice little A330 pops up. :(

However, this is quite rare. If you are scheduled on a 772/773 and are flying during peak season, I think it's very unlikely that you will be downgauged. The only thing I could imagine possibly happening is a move to a 2-class 773, but I'd be very surprised if even that happened.

It happens more in off-peak season as EK shuffles planes to meet demand.
