Upgrade When doors close??
I was wondering if someone can clear this for me.
I heard that if the economy class is not fully booked, and there are some available seats in Business Class, you can upgrade to business class after the doors of the plane closes. This is not a free upgrade, you have to pay for it on the spot, however, i heard it was really cheap. Any Views?????? |
I've seen this or something like this happen on an EK flight last year. However i do not know if it was a miles upgrade or a paid upgrade. But suddenly a fellow from Y came up to C escorted by the cabin crew and they settled something at his seat in C.

I've seen a couple of these. But they weren't paid, if you know what I mean. It was more of a cabin crew sponsored/condoned self-upgrade.

I have been told that this is possible for miles on board. Not sure about cash, and when I asked about it was told that a) they were full in J and b) none of the crew knew how many miles it cost, only that it existed.
One of my slight peeves about Skywards is that it's not always easy to find information yourself without asking. The web site, for instance, seems to have information but it's organized oddly. Award tickets, for instance, are not necessarily by region but by number of stops, so SYD costs 125,000 miles in Economy from Singapore, but a nonstop destination like MEL costs only 45,000 (numbers might be wrong and are for demonstration purposes only). I understand this is because SYD requires backtracking, but still, what a crazy differential. |
I've heard the story by someone who told me they paid on board to get an upgrade on KRT-DXB.
How does that work? Are these seats available when they loaded catering for the higher classes but pax didn't turn up? |
