Third JFK Frequency?
|
I doubt EK has the traffic rights between Germany and the US.
|
My comments are similar to those in that thread:
Interesting, a few weeks ago I read an interview with the European manager of Emirates, he said that they are not planning to fly nonstop to another destination than Dubai from German airports because "it is not their market". ... Maybe HAM is not doing so well, so they need to send the aircraft all the way to JFK? Cheers |

It also taps a wide area of Northern Germany along with Berlin (fairly close by fast train) and parts of Denmark. |
I have this gut feeling that it will not be a third frequency, but rather the second frequency (that already exists) might be changed to stop in HAM enroute
Cheers |
We now have a supposed schedule for the new flights (from airliners.net)
DXB/HAM 0855/1255 HAM/JFK 1440/1700 JFK/HAM 2315/1235+1 HAM/DXB 1415/2325 The existing direct JFK (EK201) also departs DXB at 0830 and returns from JFK at 2300. Very similar timings to the new flight. Yes, EK has 5th freedom traffic rights between HAM-JFK vv. |

If this is true, the second DXB-HAM flight makes sense now.
I was always wondering how it could be, that HAM can get a second daily flight in october after starting this route only in march. Even more surprising was the announced big 77W aircraft for this flight - but now it makes sense! |
There was a similar rumour a couple of months ago about a 3rd MAN daily, which continued on to IAH. Not heard anything recently.

It really seems to be coming
Although the flight is not yet loaded in Sabre it can be found in EK's internal system starting October 29th.

Also I find that it's easier for foreign carriers to obtain traffic rights into and out of secondary cities which are poorly served by the national airline. I don't think LH has a single long-haul service from HAM even though it's a wealthy city. HAM believes that LH treats it as a poor relation (in terms of long-haul services) compared to FRA and MUC. |
It's now loaded in the GDS:
EK 205 77W DXB-HAM 08.55-12.55 HAM-JFK 14.40-17.00 EK 206 77W JFK-HAM 23.15-12.35+1 HAM-DXB 14.15+1-23.25+1 |

Cheers Getting NYC-LGW or NYC-STN rights is a snap, as evidenced by airlines like Maxjet or EOS. I for one welcome the new EK service, because EK offers a so-called Rail and Fly service with Deutsche Bahn which allows you to travel to the airport you're flying from for a flat fee. Given the timing of these flights, I could easily get on a train near FRA in time to make the HAM-JFK flight. And given EK's penchant for attractive fares, this may be a viable option on the FRA-NYC route. Though that would mean I would have to give up the FRA-JFK flight on SQ. All these difficult decisions... but I'm all for increased choice! |
